We were up sharp at Neist Point and were back on the road before it was fully light. Our early start meant that the road was almost completely clear on our return journey back to the main road. It still took a while to get to our next destination thought - the famous Fairy Pools.
I think everyone has heard of these magical pools of water, and despite the cold, grey day there were still a fair crowd of people visiting. As the weather was a bit dull, I wasn't too hopeful of seeing the beautiful blue water that I had seen in photos, but I was wrong. They really are that colour, sun or no sun. I think this is my favourite photo from the entire trip. Just look at those colours! After a night in Uig, we were on the road again early the next morning. We had been hoping to visit Dunvegan Castle, but sadly it's closed to visitors over the winter, so we headed for Coral Beach instead. This was on my list of must-visit places and I'm so glad we made it there.
We were lucky to wake up in Staffin Bay early enough to see the sun rise from our bedroom window. Watching the moon set and the stars fade away into these gorgeous colours was a highlight of the trip for me. This was a very quiet and peaceful spot with only one other motorhome staying overnight. After the madness of Storr the day before, we were quite surprised by this. Definitely not complaining though.
We usually play it safe during the winter holidays and head east for our traditional New Year trip. Not this year though! We'd been dying to revisit Skye for ages, ever since our whistle-stop visit in 2014, but the island's increasing popularity and overcrowding during the spring and summer months was putting us off. A winter trip seemed like the best option, we just had to wait for a window of opportunity...
A spell of more settled weather was predicted for the first week in January so we took a chance, booked our first night's accommodation and set off on Hogmanay for what we hoped would be an awesome trip. |
