It's a holiday weekend up here in Scotland, so where else would we spend it but away in Bodhi? The local weather is looking fine so we've popped 20 minutes up the road to Cobleland Campsite near Aberfoyle.
Who can believe that this is Scotland? We're having the most amazing spell of good weather just now, so when my parents offered to take charge of the Tornado Twins for a few days, Tommy and I jumped at the chance to get away and booked a few nights at Witches Craig campsite just outside Stirling.
The Tornado Twins were off to Brownie camp, so Tommy and I took the chance to have a few nights away for ourselves in Dunkeld.
Autumn is a glorious time of year in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Killin sits right on the northern edge of the park and is great for a weekend trip. The Falls of Dochart are spectacular and there's plenty of places for a coffee or a pint after a good walk.
This Easter, we decided to take a chance on the weather and booked three nights at Milton of Fonab Caravan Park outside Pitlochry. Unfortunately it ended up a bit wet and windy but we made the most of it anyway.
As I write this, we are being rocked and blown about in Hans, as the weather gears up to become Storm Imogen. We're staying outside Perth at Noah's Ark Caravan Site (it's February half term). We arrived on Friday in the pouring rain and it hasn't really stopped since we got here! Our last two February getaways were glorious with blue skies and sunshine so I guess our luck has run out this time.
Thankfully, this site has an indoor play area nearby, with go karts, bowling and soft play on offer, so after getting ourselves organised on Friday afternoon, we walked over and unleashed the Tornado Twins into the soft play area. Last weekend, we took advantage of the fabulous September weather and a completely free weekend and booked ourselves into the Caravan Club's Maragowan site, which is just outside Killin.
Hans has had a bit of a sabbatical these last few weeks and months. Tommy's mum has been unwell and sadly passed away in April, leaving a massive hole in our hearts and our lives.
We took the early May holiday as a chance to escape and relax a little. Tommy managed to secure a last minute booking for two nights at Keltie Bridge Site outside Callander in the Trossachs, around an hour away from home. It was the perfect opportunity for some family time. Callander is a great place for a weekend away, with a nice selection of shops, cafes and touristy things to see. Keltie Bridge is about a mile out of town, linked by a cycle path that takes you off the main road. The site itself is quite big and was very busy for the weekend - if you ever book in, I'd advise getting one of the serviced pitches near the back, rather than the cramped pitches near the office! An early finish for me at work and the promise of some good weather spurred us on to take a weekend away in Hans. The biggest challenge at this time of year is the lack of open sites - they are few and far between! But thanks to the wonder of Pitchup.com, we were soon on our way to Braidhaugh Caravan Site, just outside Crieff.
We've been to Crieff many times, although previously we have stayed in the wonderful Crieff Hydro, where childcare is included in your stay and you can escape to the adults-only Victorian Spa. |
