Hoorn was the last stopping point of our 2017 tour and one we were looking forward too. We'd heard great reports of the historic harbour and town. There's a great stellplatz at the marina that we parked up at for £17 a night, and from there it was an easy stroll into the centre.
Utrecht was a surprise for us - we weren't expecting to enjoy it quite so much! We said last year that we thought Delft was like a mini Amsterdam, when in actual fact Utrecht is a better fit for that title.
Some places you visit and you're slightly underwhelmed. Not so Xanten! So much to see, we barely scratched the surface!
Koblenz felt like an oasis of comfort after several days without electricity and no fridge!
We left Austria still smarting from the 53 euros a night we were paying in Salzburg. After spending the last 10 nights in proper (expensive) sites, we were on the look out for something cheap and cheerful. A quick look in the Bord Atlas showed us a site on the lake of Chiemsee in Germany. It was right on the waterside and was only 15 euros a night. Result!
This was such a great day out that it deserved a post of its own. The Keltenblitz is an alpine coaster outside Salzburg, where you hurtle down a narrow rail on a plastic sledge for over a kilometre. I went first and flew down. The girls went next then Tommy brought up the rear with his GoPro in hand. The girls were understandably rather cautious, some of the turns are quite tight and it's very unnerving when you can't see the rail ahead, so the video below isn't the fastest version you'll see. But it still gives a great view of this must-do attraction. Enjoy! Salzburg was a city that Tommy and I were really looking forward to seeing. We had been blown away by Innsbruck last year and we expected Salzburg to be just as good.
