We're making the most of our new Camping and Caravan Club membership with a night away at their Milarrochy Bay site on the east side of Loch Lomond. Just 40 minutes and a whole world away from home.
We arrived just after 12 and nabbed a prime loch side pitch. I came home from work tonight to find that Tommy had had a busy afternoon. He's been itching to do this for months. No mistaking us on the road now!
It's always the way, isn't it. The schools are off for the holiday weekend, Tommy is off too... And I'm working 4 out of the 5 days. Typical. It was also Volksfling weekend. Tommy was not a happy boy!
With only 1 full day to enjoy, Tommy set about organising us with military precision. A few phone calls to Biggar Caravan Site secured us a cancelled pitch and so when I finished work on Saturday, I found Hans waiting for me in the Staff car park. Fresh from our Callander break, we took the opportunity of the good weather to have our first day out with our new National Trust for Scotland membership. We've been missing our Historic Scotland membership and the opportunities it gave us for great value days out, so Tommy organised the NTS family membership for £69 for the year and away we go again!
Hans has had a bit of a sabbatical these last few weeks and months. Tommy's mum has been unwell and sadly passed away in April, leaving a massive hole in our hearts and our lives.
We took the early May holiday as a chance to escape and relax a little. Tommy managed to secure a last minute booking for two nights at Keltie Bridge Site outside Callander in the Trossachs, around an hour away from home. It was the perfect opportunity for some family time. Callander is a great place for a weekend away, with a nice selection of shops, cafes and touristy things to see. Keltie Bridge is about a mile out of town, linked by a cycle path that takes you off the main road. The site itself is quite big and was very busy for the weekend - if you ever book in, I'd advise getting one of the serviced pitches near the back, rather than the cramped pitches near the office! |
