So what do you do when your summer holiday to Italy has been cancelled due to a pandemic? You jump in the camper and head NORTH!
While we're safe at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I thought I'd do a round up of some of the upgrades Tommy has been doing on Bodhi over the last few weeks.
This February, we'd been looking forward to a long awaited trip to Keswick in the Lake District. However, Storm Erik had other ideas, with strong winds and heavy rain, and after a cancellation phone call from our campsite, we had a quick think and headed east instead to Dundee, home of the RRS Discovery and the newly opened V&A Dundee.
We left Scarborough en route to Flamingo Land, with a quick stop at Morrisons for fuel and a food shop. Well, it was supposed to be a quick stop, but then this happened...
If there's ever a city that needed a bypass, it's Aberdeen! So, so many roundabouts on the A90 through the city, Tommy was done from the constant gear changing and if the satnav said 'Take second exit' one more time I was going to put it out the window! But finally we broke free of the traffic and were on the open road north to Banff, where we were booked into Banff Links Caravan Site.
It's been a while since I've given an update in how we're getting on with our new motorhome Bodhi. It's safe to say we utterly adore him and wouldn't change him for anything.
When we sold Hans, the carbon monoxide alarm, fire extinguisher and fire blanket we had installed went with him. For me, it gave peace of mind to know that his new family were in the safest environment possible.
So one of the first things we had to do was replace these items when Bodhi arrived. It's September weekend and the Classic HymerFest is in full swing down in Somerset. It's too far for us, so we consoled ourselves with a trip to Elie in Fife instead. Not quite the same but still pretty awesome.
We're currently away for the weekend in Killin in Stirlingshire. Last night, for no apparent reason, the control panel of our Truma Combi E boiler began to flash red, indicating a fault. We'd experienced a similar problem at New Year, which we'd always put down to the awful weather and the interrupted power supply we were linked to. This time, the weather is warm and dry, so we were slightly puzzled.
We solved the problem last time by replacing a ceramic fuse on the power board. We'd bought a few replacement fuse and luckily had them with us. This morning, Tommy took out his trusty toolkit (don't leave home without it) and proceeded to take the wardrobe apart to access the boiler. I came home from work tonight to find that Tommy had had a busy afternoon. He's been itching to do this for months. No mistaking us on the road now!
