Koblenz felt like an oasis of comfort after several days without electricity and no fridge! With temperatures forecast into the early 30s, we knew we'd be more comfortable on a proper site with access to showers and electricity for our fans! The Knaus site in the centre of Koblenz fit the bill nicely, although the 38 euro a night price tag did sting a little. We lucked out though, with a huge pitch beside a tree that gave us shade for most of the day. There's even a little ferry that takes you across the Mosel to the town centre. We spent an enjoyable evening exploring the town and watching the traffic on the water. The girls loved seeing the Seilbahn cable cars soaring above the Rhine and we promised them a trip the next day. The next day was hot, so we slapped on the sun cream and jumped on the Seilbahn up to the castle. The ride was short but good fun, although if we hadn't spent a few extra euros and bought tickets for the castle too, it would have been a very expensive hour! The castle, on the other hand, filled our whole day as it's huge! There's all sorts to see, from medieval fortifications to cowboy exhibitions (yes, really!) to underground light shows and even a youth hostel and a beer garden! The views are spectacular too. I'm sure there are bits that we didn't see as it was so extensive. Definitely worth the extra few euros as part of a combined ticket on the Seilbahn. Read more about our travels in Germany.
