Earlier this year we were invited to meet up with some fellow Hymer enthusiasts at a small meet in Dumfries and Galloway. Fourteen vans in total , all members of the Classic Hymers group, rolled up to The Braids caravan site in Gretna and we had a great weekend together. The Friday was a glorious day with blue skies and sunshine and we all arrived in good spirits. Some people we knew already from previous meets and some we hadn't met before but we were all soon chatting together in the sun, enjoying a drink and scoping out each others Hymers. Friday evening found us all in the rally hut where some gin and whisky tasting got the drinks flowing. We bowed out around 10.30 to leave the seasoned drinkers to it and to get our Tornado Twins to bed - who, rather strangely, were tired! Must have been a busy week. The next morning had a gorgeous sunrise. I took a photo through the window but Tommy braved the cold to go outside and get a proper one. Sadly it rained most of the day, so we took the girls along to the Gretna Gateway Outlet Village. They happily spent the remainer of their Christmas money and then we had a bit of lunch in the Gretna Inn. We had been planning to visit Gretna Green, with its museum and blacksmith shop, but by this time Tommy and I were struggling by a bit (pesky beer and gin) so we retreated to Bodhi and spent the rest of the afternoon chilling with a film. Dinner was in the rally hut - we'd all made food and there was a fantastic spread. My macaroni cheese seemed to go down well. It was a lovely evening but once again our children, usually little dynamos, were ready for bed early and we had to leave at 8.30! I will admit I wasn't very impressed with them but what can you do? At least we made it into the group photo! The up side of an early night is that you feel good the next day, so when the sun started shining we were up and about. Sunday mornings seem to be the time you really get to know people at a meet. We had a right good poke around the Hymers and loads of chat. Our girls walked some dogs (highlight of the weekend for them, no doubt!). Midday found us all on the road again but we'll see each other again for the HymerChill next month. Can't wait!
