After a surprisingly good 4 days at Haggerston Castle, we had a mammoth cross country drive from East to West of to Dumfries and Galloway and our next stop off in New Abbey. After passing from Berwick to Kelso to Selkirk, we stopped off at Loch of the Lowes near Peebles for lunch and a leg stretch. The girls disembarked and set off to guddle in the stream while Tommy took some photos and I got the kettle on. After TT2 slipped on a stone in the stream and got a good dunking, we decided it was time to move on before the other one one went in too! Wet jeans in the sink and PJ bottoms on, we continued onto New Abbey via Moffat and Dumfries. It was a gorgeous run, even though the road was a touch narrow in places. Definitely more B road than A road! We pulled into our new site in mid afternoon, and were greeted by the most wonderful, beautiful little site we have even laid eyes on. Landis Farm CL, just outside New Abbey, takes just 5 vans but makes the most of every square foot of ground they have. There was beautifully kept grass, flowers in tubs, bird feeders, painted old farm machinery, a shed full of vintage tractors, goats, chickens, farm cats and more. The girls eyes nearly fell out their heads. We prised the girls away and walked them down to New Abbey, where we visited the corn mill, which is run by Historic Scotland. New Abbey Corn Mill is the last working water mill of its kind. Sadly it wasn't running when we arrived but a nice gentleman named George showed us round and gave the girls a bag of oatmeal to feed the birds with. After we got back to Hans, we barely had the energy to eat dinner and watch ET before we fell asleep! Read more about our travels in Dumfries and Galloway
