Last year we spent four days in Northumberland between Christmas and New Year. This year, we stayed closer to home and booked two nights at the Loch Lomond Holiday Park for over New Year. With us were our good friends, the Harper family. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for New Year's Eve was looking a bit like this: Not ideal! Thankfully the Harpers have a lovely big awning, so after we parked up on our lochside pitches, Tommy and Ronnie set to work putting it up in torrential rain. I had the easy of job of watching the children in the warm, dry comfort of Hans. I did feel sorry for them, they were soaked through! When the rain eased slightly, Tommy managed to grab a picture of our pitch. You can see how wet it's been from the water on the pitch. Thankfully by this point the awning was up, the heater was on and the boys were drying off. I started working on dinner, Ronnie drove back to Balloch to pick up Tanya, who had been working, and Tommy had a well earned beer. We were soon all encamped in the awning, toasty warm and munching burgers while the rain poured down outside. It was the kind of evening where we were all so chilled out, midnight could have passed us by without us even noticing! At one point, the rain cleared and stayed that way until after midnight, meaning we were able to go outside an enjoy the firework that another party organised (complete in party dresses and kilts!). I was in my onesie by this point, and I have to admit, there are much worse ways of spending New Year than being outside on the banks of Loch Lomond, looking at the stars, surrounded by friends and family and with a glass of wine in your hand. I headed off the bed with the girls at that point, leaving Tommy in his fashionable camping outfit. The next morning, the weather had closed in again and we spent the day hunkered in, swopping children occasionally to keep them busy. Ronnie made dinner for us all and more wine was consumed. Typically, as we packed up to go on the 2nd, the sun made an appearance. The kids had a play about in the mud before we set off down the road. Not the easiest of stays (especially as the heating element of our heating packed in on the second night - thank goodness for gas!) but the company made it good fun. Happy New Year, everyone.
