As I write this, we are being rocked and blown about in Hans, as the weather gears up to become Storm Imogen. We're staying outside Perth at Noah's Ark Caravan Site (it's February half term). We arrived on Friday in the pouring rain and it hasn't really stopped since we got here! Our last two February getaways were glorious with blue skies and sunshine so I guess our luck has run out this time. Thankfully, this site has an indoor play area nearby, with go karts, bowling and soft play on offer, so after getting ourselves organised on Friday afternoon, we walked over and unleashed the Tornado Twins into the soft play area. Two hours later, they were sweaty and tired - mission accomplished! We headed back to Hans, where dinner, a DVD and an early night awaited us. On Saturday we were up early and walked into Perth. We debated whether or not we should get the bus (it's nearly 3 miles into the city centre) but we were there before we knew it and a quick coffee and a cookie at Blend Coffee Lounge soon cheered the girls up again. February 8th is Chinese New Year (Year of the Monkey, how apt!) and there were a few events in Perth to celebrate. The dragon parade was great fun and the girls were delighted to get a fortune cookie each. After the parade, we grabbed some lunch before heading to the Fergusson Gallery, which is in a converted water pump building. It's quite small but kept us busy for a while. The girls were most amused by the sculpture outside. Honestly, we can't take them anywhere! A quick trip across the Tay to Moncrieffe Island via the railway bridge was next on the cards, before we headed back into the city centre to visit the Perth Museum and Art Gallery. By this point, it was late afternoon and we were all tired. And we still had that walk home! So a brief stop at Lidl provided some walking home snacks and we were soon marching back up the hill to Hans. As we got to the campsite, my Fitbit ticked over the 10 miles mark, so it's no wonder the girls were a bit cranky. They really are little troopers. And given the awful weather today, it's just as well we crammed so much in yesterday. I've managed to walk as far as the water tap, although Tommy made it a bit further to the shower block! The girls briefly got dressed but were soon back in their PJs when they realised how nasty it was out there. It's been a day of Scrabble, drawing, iPads, dominos, Barbies, snacks, Trivial Pursuit and DVDs. And a bit of summer touring investigation too. We're making our way back home tomorrow and the weather is typically to be a bit brighter, so hopefully we can make the most of being away from home and find somewhere to stop and explore. Fingers crossed! WInter can present some interesting weather, but we always make the most of it.
