We were all reluctant to leave Whitby, but our next site - Haven's Primrose Valley Holiday Park near Filey - was paid for and waiting for us, so off we went. We've stayed at a few Haven sites now, some good (Haggerston Castle and Lakeland) and one that definitely wasn't (Craig Tara) but they're usually great value for tourers so we were willing to give it a go... First impressions were excellent, with a friendly welcome and a large flat pitch complete with electricity, water and waste water drain. For around £35 a night, you'd expect nothing less, but the main attraction of staying somewhere like this are the facilities that are included in the price. We're not interested in the showbar, prize bingo or arcades (although the Tornado Twins managed to fleece us regardless) - the big draws were the swimming pools and easy access to the beach and town of Filey. The pools (two indoor and one outdoor) were excellent, with flumes, bubbles, jets and everything a kid wants while attempting to drown themselves. The main pool had a float assault course that our girls took very seriously and over the three days they managed to hone their skills and would rattle across it in a matter of seconds. In between swimming sessions, we explored the park and were pretty impressed with the activities available on offer. Everything from a climbing wall to stand up paddle boarding to rollercoasters to a lakeside bar to laser quest was on offer (at a price) and the place was heaving with families making the most of the sunshine. Like many others, we spent time at the lovely beach which is just a short walk from the park. It's a sweeping bay of golden sand with the Edwardian seaside town of Filey perched at the northern end. The girls had a great time playing in the sand while Tommy and I chilled in the sunshine. After a while, ice creams were required so we strolled into Filey and had a look around. It's a very typical seaside town but it does it well and there's plenty to see. I fancied some fish and chips but the seagulls looked a bit ruthless so we decided to give it a miss! It ended up being a very relaxing stay at the park, which was lovely. We basically bounced from the swimming pool to the beach and back again. Despite this being the most expensive site of the holiday, it turned out to be great value - the only money we spent was on ice cream and at the arcade! We'd quite happily return again. We've said that about every place we've stopped so far on this trip. Let's hope the next stop - Scarborough - is as good. England has a huge variety of landscapes and areas to see.
